Why Our Coffee is Healthier Than Your Typical Cup of Joe

Black & Brown Coffee House blends are produced with health at the forefront through our intentional harvesting and roasting practices. In this article, we'll discuss how our blends harness the power of this secret superfood - from soil to sip.

Each morning, our coffee farmers in Medellin, Colombia hand-pick each individual coffee cherry for the most ripe fruits. In turn, these are also packed with fully-developed antioxidants.

Hand-Picked and Inspected Individually

Did you know that coffee comes from cherries!? Yep, the cup of velvety goodness you drink each day comes from a fruit called coffee cherries. The fruit isn't where the good stuff lies though, it's the seeds inside. Every morning, our team of farmers in Medellin wake up at the crack of dawn to meticulously inspect each coffee cherry tree for the ripest fruits, indicated by their deep red color. The beans in these cherries are jam-packed with fully-developed antioxidants leaving the green, yellow, and orange cherries to finish developing. Many commodity coffee roasters automate their harvesting process, allowing every fruit (whether fully ripe, or not) to make its way into your coffee bags. We make sure only the ripest coffee makes its way to your doorstep, full of antioxidants.

Naturally-Sweet and Sun Dried

After the coffee cherries are washed, our farmers lay them out in a drying bed to be sundried by the heat and energy of the sun. During this process, the sugars from the coffee cherry envelop the coffee bean with natural sweetness and intensify the boldness of the blend. Because of its naturally-sweet properties, our blends are best served black - no sugar, no cream, no tummy-turning chemicals or additives.

Slow Roasted to Perfection

Each Black & Brown Coffee House coffee bean is slow roasted to perfection, ensuring rich and bold flavors of pure Colombian coffee. While many large coffee brands will over-roast their coffee beans to pull out flavors, the roast profile heats too quick and the nutrients and health benefits are diminished. We slow roast our beans by hand, retaining antioxidants which become more potent after roasting.
